The Cat Calls

I minored in animation while I was attending the University of the Arts. This is one of the projects I worked on over the course of two months.

I created a storyboard and then built my characters and some of my settings in Adobe Illustrator. I used After Effects to bring all of it together.

For sound, I recorded my partner’s voice and manipulated it in Adobe Premiere to make them seem like different voices. He was very uncomfortable with the things I made him say, but that only proves he is a proper gentleman and does not approve of cat calls.

The Cats of Ulthar

For a different animation class, I spent the semester developing a two-minute stop-motion animation.

I chose to tell the H.P. Lovecraft story called “The Cats of Ulthar.” It’s about how a caravan of strangers who worshipped cats came into the town of Ulthar. In the town, the mayor had a cat he loved dearly as well.

There was an old couple who lived at the edge of town and were rumored to abduct cats and skin them. The caravan people stopped to rest, meanwhile a boy from the group played with his cat.

The old couple spied the cat and decided to steal it. The boy couldn’t find his cat and the mayor suspected the old couple. He also couldn’t find his own cat at the same time.

The boy cast a spell and summoned the cats to go after whoever took is cat. The cats of the town rallied and the old couple were never seen again.

Luckily for the mayor, his cat resurfaced.

I built the sets from supplies one can find for building train models, as well as basic craft supplies from the store.

The armatures for the puppets were purchased online and had been 3-D printed. I used felt, wire and clay to cover the armatures.

Post production was done with Adobe Premiere and After Effects. Some of the sounds came from creative commons and freesound.com. My partner also contributed his voice to the mayor.

The font for the title sequence was inspired by the Voynich Manuscript, which has never been deciphered.

Random Shorts

The series of videos in this gallery are short animations I did as assignments while in school, all practicing various methods of animation.
